Dry Skin Cream

My oldest daughter has struggled with eczema since she was five. It has been a battle to control it and we only just made progress when after testing, we discovered that her eczema was connected to her food allergies. Eczema can also be connected to your environment and the soap you use to wash your clothes. It’s important with any health issue to find the cause of the problem instead of just fixing the symptoms. Back when I was trying to just control the itchy symptoms with creams it was both expensive and the ingredients in the creams where questionable. So I did some research and found several recipes for creams, so I decided to try my hand at making my own. Through the years I have found a combination that works wonders for my daughter, so I thought I’d share.

I know the last thing the internet needs is another homemade dry skin cream, but here is one more. It is really important that when you make your cream you buy the best ingredients you can.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. of Shea butter
  • 1 tbsp. Mango butter
  • 2 tbsp. of Coconut oil infused with Calendula flower
  • 1 tbsp. Castor oil
  • 1 tbsp. Black currant oil
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 3 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 1 tsp Arrowroot powder (It helps keep the cream from being too greasy)

Directions

  1. In a double boiler, add the shea butter, mango butter and coconut oil and melt it using medium heat.
  2. After its melted take it off the stove and add the castor oil and currant oil.
  3. Set into the fridge for about an hour or until it starts to turn solid, you don’t want it completely solid.
  4. Take it from the fridge and add the other ingredients.
  5. Place the  cream into a mixer and whip until nice and fluffy.
  6. Take the finished cream and put into a nice jar.

Alternatives: You could add 2 tbsp. of bees-wax to make a different textured cream. With the bees-wax you could place it into a chapstick container to make it easy to apply on children.
